Living in a Group Home

I live in a group home with 2 other house mates. I have my own room. It is not too bad but it is hard to find things to do. I have the computer so that is a big help. I get food stamps and they supplement that with some money too. I have food to eat and a roof over my head. I am 58 years old so I will probably be in here for life. I do not think I can make it on my own after the 5 year conditional release is up. The house is basicly a place to come and sleep. I have a TV in my room and that helps. I use to have cable when I was living with my girlfriend but now I just have an antenna. I pick up a lot of good channels though. I have my privacy. It is a town house and there are other houses around that belong to Mosaic so I am not alone. Like I said it is a roof over my head and food to eat.

New Day at the program

I am getting ready to go to the program this morning. It is not too bad going. I see some people and there are "groups" we can go to that are little lesson classes. I usually do not go to classes. I spend my time outside in the good weather or down in the "soda room" if the weather is bad. The soda room is a room with chairs to sit on and 2 soda machines. I go up CVS and buy 2 liters of soda and have that throughout the day rather then spend 65 cents on a 12oz soda out of the machine. There are tables to sit on outside where some people gather to talk and smoke. There is a lot of smoking that goes on. I am going to try to quit smoking using nicotine gum. So that is a little bit about my day. It is not all bad. It can be boring and some days are better then others. I had a good weekend and I am ready to go in now.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation

I am back now. I have been away for a while. I am in a Psychiatric Rehabilitation program with Mosaic Inc. I live in a group home now. It is a long way from where I was before. I thought I would try to write of my experiences as a mental patient. For one I have a bi-polar illness. I had been in and out of hospitals for some time. It started to lead to where I would end up in the detention center. That is what happen to me this last time. I was found not criminally responsible for a crime I do not think I really committed. I ended up getting a 5 year conditional release that is why I am where I am at now. I do not like the program to well but it is a roof over my head and food in my belly. I was headed for a homeless life. I go to a program 5 days a week and that gives me something to do. I look at it that way and it makes it bearable. I do not think I am going to get out after the 5 years I will probably spend the rest of my life in the program. That is ok because I have pretty much done what I wanted to do in life. I will write more if I can to tell of my experience. I do not know if anyone will read it but I will try to put something down. Bye for now!
